our workshops

At the Book Incubator we ask a simple question: What's your story?  We recognise that for some people, that seemingly simple question unearths an internal mine field of emotions. It is because of this that we run our workshops in very small and emotionally nurturing  groups. Individuals are offered safety and support to tell their stories - often for the first time.

Each participant's voice is listened to and heard.

We pride ourselves in creating environments where this can happen - no matter who you are and no matter what your story is.

Our two signature programs, From Storyboard to Print and Mini Mees (he creation of self portraits using polymer clay) gently guide participants through the process of telling their stories in an authentic manner.

From Storyboard to Print sees participants develop a story idea from concept to a book, ready to be professionally printed all within 15 hours of contact time.

The Mini Mee workshops present people with an opportunity to be kind and nurturing to themselves as they create their small self portraits. Both programs inclusive and have far reaching mental health benefits for both children and adults.

We invite you to explore our services and see what we offer that may be of interest to you, your community group or school.

small group workshops

mini mees

There is something very special and self affirming about holding a miniature of yourself in your hand and protecting it. The Mini Mee workshops teach participants to use polymer clay to sculpt small replicas of themselves. The workshops become a powerful space for people to reflect on themselves, confront their own self critic and develop new skills. Starting with lumps of clay and wire armatures participants in the Mini Mee workshops tell their stories through the creation of small three dimensional self portraits.

talking books

Talking books are a very powerful tool to tell personal narratives. These digital stories can be kept for personal use, shared on social media, via email, and on websites - the choice is up to the author. In the workshops the stories are written,  the author's voice recorded and used as a voice over on top of images that represent the story being told. Talking  Books are a fabulous way to engage an audience by sharing stories using digital technology. In these multi-modal workshops participants learn story structure, visual literacy techniques , and the art of digital story telling through the use of easily accessible software and editing tools.

You can also turn your printed book into a talking book ... imagine that!

facilitator workshops

Our facilitator workshops are designed to provide Community Care Workers with an insight into our programs and a  hands on trial of the activities that their clients will engage in through our workshops. The facilitator workshops help the care workers to experience aspects of out workshops that will help them as they partner with us to create the best workshops for their clients.  The facilitator workshop for community groups is a 1/2 day session.

Our facilitator workshop for teachers provides a behind the scenes look at what we do and how we do it in the creation of talking books. This workshop is a one day event and provides teachers with a skill set specifically designed for creating and editing talking books.
