PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION

Author/Illustrator Eloise Perpitch

The creation of personal narratives touches both the creator and the reader very deeply. The author has  opportunities to be listened to and have their voice heard through their story telling and the reader is often moved to reflect on their own life experiences,.

The Book Incubator™, provides a safe and authentic place for people to tell their stories. Our  workshops are inclusive; accessible to all ages, all abilities and have no barriers. Our programs are designed to support people as they tell their own stories, discover new things about themselves and connect on a deeper level to their personal history.

Creativity is an innate part of being human. From birth, we access various parts of our creativity by engaging in music, dance, drawing and storytelling. Sadly, all too often these creative skills are diminished as we grow into adults. We develop a false belief that specialised artistic skills are required to create meaningful pieces of creative art and often stop creating. At the Book Incubator we gently confront this sense of inadequacy within the adult as we encourage and support the creative self expression of all participants in our workshops.

The creation of personal narratives touches both the creator and the reader very deeply. The author has  opportunities to be listened to and have their voice heard through their story telling and the reader is often moved to reflect on their own life experiences. Our workshops develop self esteem ad self efficacy.

By engaging in a group or individual From Storyboard to Print™ workshop,  your clients will have an opportunity to develop self efficacy in a fun, challenging and achievable manner. What's your story is a seemingly simple question that can unearth an internal a mine field of emotions.   We run our workshops and individual sessions in very small, emotionally nurturing groups. People are offered  safety and support to tell their stories - often for the first time. Each participant's voice is listened to and heard. We pride ourselves in creating environments where this can happen - no matter what the story is.

The From Storyboard to Print™ Narrative Therapy model enables people to feel heard and seen in a professionally printed book. The book is a beautiful encapsulation of their story for legacy and ongoing reflection.

The books created by women who are victims of sexual abuse/assault and family domestic violence through the HERSTORY project exceeded all anticipated  outcomes.  A lot of research went into the project initially to ensure the outcomes for the women were therapeutic, not just enjoyable.  Those involved were provided with a safe,  protected and supported environment, where they could process their our trauma experience through the process of writing and illustrating their own books about their own stories. Some of the women told their story for the first time during the process of the workshop series, these women described the experience as cathartic and healing.   Watching and listening to  the women as they received their books at the book launch was an emotionally charged experience with tears of joy and words of accomplishment for doing something of their own for themselves. The sense of achievement was palpable for all members of the HERSTORY workshop including the counsellors and support staff.  I am already looking forward to providing opportunities for more women to do a series of Book Incubator workshops! Well done Book Incubator! And thank you so much Kate for being the person you are who could be sensitive and nurturing through the workshop series.
